Tweets and kilometers went a long at this year’s Adobe Sydney Symposium, contributing to an amazing $40,000 raised for cancer charity Tour de Cure.
By the end of day, Symposium attendees had raised $20,000 through Adobe’s fundraising initiative Tweet For Good and ‘Cycle for Change’ – a huge amount that was then matched by our partners Westpac and Accenture who joined in supporting this great cause.
Adobe has continued its close relationship with Tour de Cure in 2017, a charity with a mission to cure cancer by raising money for research, support, and prevention projects.
What began a decade ago as a simple idea to register a charity and generate donations through a single bike ride with the support of corporate Australia has evolved into an organisation that has to date raised more than $25 million.
Since 2007, Tour de Cure has cycled annually through Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria to help fund cancer research. For the first ride, a group of 29 cyclists made a 1,175km journey from Brisbane to Sydney and raised over $300,000. As well as the flagship event – the annual Signature Tour de Cure – the charity also does Country and Corporate Tours, and has held a Tour de Cure ball for the last three years.
Like all great ideas, the concept behind Tour de Cure is simple but brilliant: by riding a bike, participants are not only raising money with each kilometre they cover – they are also spreading the message of “cure cancer” between communities as they travel – and promote a healthy lifestyle and increase cancer awareness.
Tour de Cure’s vision is to contribute to significant cancer breakthroughs by 2018, which is why proceeds from the charity go towards funding scientists and researchers across all areas – from basic research to late phase clinical trials. The charity also works with support projects to help the patients, families, caregivers, and communities affected by cancer.
Education is another important weapon in the fight against cancer, and Tour de Cure raises awareness about cancer prevention and risks by promoting healthy living in schools through its ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’ program.
We are proud to continue supporting Tour de Cure on its mission and thank all those who joined in fundraising initiative at Sydney Symposium 2017.
