Welcome to the Design Jimoto!

Design Jimoto is a social design program that uses the power of design to tackle problems that exist on a global and local level. It can help identify problems you face that may not be so visible and provide ways to solve them.

For the past few years, we have heard many voices saying “I want to use Design Jimoto in my hometown.” Since then, we’ve been searching for simple methods that fit in this program. We then systematized these “methods that lead to problem-solving in the creative process“, put it into practice and, using our own experiences, came up with a style that is easy-to-understand.  We finally developed this worksheet “Design Jimoto Future Vision Worksheet with SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)” with community members that emphasizes ease of use for you and your community collaboration. Anyone can use this worksheet to create a forum for dialogue.

Through the implementation of the program, we will provide a place for you to face local social issues (issues that are close to home)  using methods of design as the central tool. We aim to create an opportunity for long-term cooperation between communities in other fields nationwide.

Problem-solving process with Design Jimoto

The problem-solving process considered by Design Jimoto is as follows. The newly developed “Design Jimoto Future Vision Worksheet with SDGs” covers processes (1) to (5).

Design Jimoto Future Vision Worksheet with SDGs

This is a “Future Vision” worksheet. It helps us get a closer look at our “locality, era, and future” to then dig deeper.  In order to clarify our future goals, we use the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program so that it can be used as a shared language.

* Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were made for sustainability for a better world by 2030 described in the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. This is the international goal we are aiming for. Composed of 17 goals and 169 targets, we pledge to “leave no one behind” on Earth. The SDGs are universal, not only in developing countries, but also in developed countries.  —- Excerpt from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website

For those who are tackling social issues for the first time, it will create an opportunity to notice things you may have been missing and things that need to be solved. For those who have already tackled social issues, it will be used as an opportunity to review ongoing efforts and generate new ideas. By using this worksheet, we can share our awareness with the people around us!
