I’m extremely excited to be a part of Santa Fe Workshop’s “Perspectives” seminar series! In this unique three-part series, I’ll walk through my creative process from ideation to completion, sharing insights into my workflow including: my sources for inspiration, approach while capturing photos, and techniques used in post processing in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.
In the first session, I will discuss the easiest way to create photo-realistic composites by revealing techniques to previsualize the final image while on location. I’ll demonstrates how to increase your productivity (and decrease your frustration) by capturing all of the necessary components with the same quality and direction of light, and how to seamlessly combine them in Photoshop.
I’ll reveal the inspiration and techniques behind my surreal composites in the second session. I’ll share how I select a primary subject, build the environment, and add supporting elements to reinforce the visual narrative. I’ll cover best practices for a completely nondestructive workflow and demonstrate how color, tone, and texture can help unify even the most surreal of scenes.
In the final session, I’ll examine several multi-image merging techniques to increase the quality and resolution of a photograph. Then, I’ll review a recent self-assignment that combined multiple images to explore the psychology of color. And finally I’ll share an ongoing project that compresses images taken over time into a single moment, showing how the simple act of combining frames can create new relationships and meaning between images.
Class will meet from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Mountain Time, July 14, July 15, and July 16 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). A 10 to 15 minute Q&A session follows each daily presentation. Questions from the participants will be reviewed and a few selected during this informal wrap-up conversation. If you can’t be online for the live event, you can still register for the live event; paid participants will have 24 hours to access the recorded presentation.
