Lightroom 4.3 Now Available

Lightroom 4.3 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 4.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 4.3:

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Autolayout produces a Book with the correct amount of pages but without any images added. Please note that this only occurs when the filter is set to “Unused”.
  • Uploading large panorama images to Revel caused Lightroom to crash.
  • The “Unused” filter was not properly filtering images within the Book Module.
  • Lightroom hangs while changing the Exposure adjustment by typing in a numeric adjustment. Please note that this only occurs when the Enter key is not typed to confirm the adjustment and another Develop adjustment is tried. Also please note that this only occurs on Windows.
  • After creating a new folder in Lightroom, attempting to undo that folder can sometimes cause a corrupt catalog.
  • An image can be simultaneously flagged as both a Pick and Reject at the same time.
  • Using multiple colors within a single text cell within the Book Module can cause Lightroom to crash.
  • Unable to post photos to Flickr when the image filename contains an apostrophe.
  • The active Develop slider, the one controlled with + and – keys, defaults to Exposure when moving from one photo to another.
  • Catalogs from Photoshop Elements 11 would not update in Lightroom.
  • Site titles longer than 70 characters created in the Web Module can cause Lightroom to freeze.
  • Cell padding linking lost between sessions.
  • Deleting the top image in a stack causes the entire stack to disappear.
  • Tethered capture fails when turning camera off and back on. This also can occur if the camera goes to sleep and then wakes. This occurs only with Canon cameras and on Mac only.
  • Cropping an image to a small size sometimes causes the image in Develop to become blurry.
  • AVCHD video formats are not properly importing into Lightroom. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
  • Enable Profile Corrections does not auto find iPhone 4 profile.
  • Crop doesn’t update in second monitor if navigator panel closed. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
  • TIFF files can experience tonal shifts within Lightroom.
  • Mask overlay are displayed in filmstrip and navigator. They should only be displayed in the Develop Loupe.
  • Video files created on an iPhone 4 flickers when played in Lightroom.

  • Sharpening was not applied to books that were exported as JPEG files
  • Double-byte characters were not exported to Books saved as PDF files
  • Unable to type accented character in book module in LR4
  • Luminance Noise slider was unresponsive when Clarity is greater than 0.

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Point Curve adjustments made in Lightroom 3 have been restored.
  • Edit-in functionality has been restored to external applications including Adobe Photoshop and Nik plugins
  • Addressed performance issues in Lightroom 4, particularly when loading GPS track logs, using a secondary monitor, and the controls within the Develop module.
  • Ability to update DNG previews and metadata for more than 100 photos has been restored.
  • This update allows for improved viewing of subfolders and stacks in folders with a large number of photos.
  • It was possible that a layout of a saved book could be lost after quitting Lightroom 4.
  • Adjustments made in the Develop module were not properly being reflected to photos that have been laid out in the Book Module
  • Postscript Type 1 Fonts do not appear in the Font menu within the Book module.
  • Clarity adds grey tinting to 100% white tones.

Known Issues in Lightroom 4.1:

  • Double byte fonts such as those found in Chinese and Japanese characters are not being exported to PDF or when published to Blurb.
  • The Revel Publish Service will delete photos from a carousel. This occurs when the customer asks Lightroom to delete the carousel and then cancels out of the confirmation dialogue box.

Lightroom 4 now available on the Mac App Store

We’re pleased to announce that Lightroom 4 is now available via the Mac App Store in North America.  The Mac App Store is a convenient way to research and purchase software for your Mac computer.  It’s based on an Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method so there’s no box and no shiny disc.  Instead, you download and install Lightroom directly from the Mac App Store, similar to how ESD works on Adobe.com and Amazon.com in North America. The Mac App Store offering is the same product offered on Adobe.com in terms of features and functionality but has been modified to comply with Mac App Store requirements. We’re excited to offer this distribution option to our Mac customers; however, there are a few important pieces of information you should be aware of:

  • This is a single platform license for Mac only.  (The boxed version and the ESD offering on Adobe.com can be installed on Mac or Windows)
  • Updates will take place through the Mac App Store, not via Adobe.com for this version of Lightroom.  When we update Lightroom for new camera support(about 4 times per year), the Mac App Store version may be released at a different time than the update on Adobe.com
  • There is no upgrade pricing available on the Mac App Store for Lightroom customers who own Lightroom 1, 2 or 3.
  • Because there is no upgrade pricing or upgrade validation currently available on the Mac App Store, there is no guarantee that upgrade pricing will be available to Mac App Store Lightroom 4 customers when Lightroom 5 and future versions of Lightroom are released.
  • Lightroom 4 is available on the Mac App Store in North America only

Thanks and we look forward to your feedback!

Camera Raw 6.7 Release Notes

These items have been FIXED in Camera Raw 6.7:

  • Black halo/speckle artifacts could appear when performing an image warp.  Examples of warps include lens profile adjustments and rotating the image.
  • Files rendered in Lightroom 4.0 appeared differently in ACR 6.7.
  • Using the clarity adjustment adds tone to 100% white tones
  • Raw files from Olympus E-P1 are not cropped according to the aspect ratio set on the camera
  • Nikon D800, D800E and D4 NEF still images will not open in Lightroom 4.0 and ACR 6.7 if they were shot in live video mode
  • Rendering with local corrections in 6.5 and 6.6 could be slower compared to previous ACR 6 versions
  • Saving over 200 images as compressed tiff can cause certain hardware to become unresponsive.

Thank You

Thanks to everyone who submitted bug reports, posted entries in the U2U forums and blogged their issues so that we could improve Camera Raw and DNG Convertor in this update.

Lightroom 4.0 Now Available

The Lightroom team is proud to announce the availability of Lightroom 4.0.  With over 300,000 downloads of the Lightroom 4 public beta we’ve heard some resounding feedback that photographers would like to start using Lightroom 4 on a daily basis and migrate their previous Lightroom work to this latest version.  We’re also excited to announce new pricing for Lightroom 4: $149 for those new to Lightroom and $79 for the Upgrade and Student/Teacher editions.  (You can upgrade from any version of Lightroom to Lightroom 4)

Get Started with Julieanne Kost’s fantastic video tutorial series

Changes since the public beta:

  • Reverse geocoding now available in the Map Module
  • Revamped and improved auto tone in Develop based on new controls
  • Increased range of local white balance controls (temperature and tint)
  • Updated Develop presets plus added new presets for video
  • Maximum Blurb book size is now 240 pages
  • Over 800 bugs found and fixed! (Thank you Lightroom 4 beta customers!)

Important Release Notes

  • We found a late bug in the Lightroom 4 book module that would cause text errors if Courier New, Times or Callibri is the selected font.  Please preview your books as a PDF before submitting to blurb when using those fonts
  • Norton Antivirus 2012 incorrectly flags video related program files in Lightroom 4 as possible threats. Please instruct Norton Antivirus 2012 to exclude Lightroom 4 files from its scan.
  • McAfee Virus Scan prevents emails from being sent from Lightroom 4. Please instruct McAfee Virus Scan to exclude Lightroom 4 files from its scan.
  • AVCHD support is limited to MTS and M2TS video files. Dedicated video editors (such as Premiere Pro) may need the AVCHD file structure to process the files.
  • Lightroom can sometimes crash when printing to PDF in Windows 7. Lowering the resolution of the PDF in the print driver can help mitigate this.

Thank You

The Lightroom team would thank our community of photographers for participating in the Lightroom 4 public beta.  We would also like to thank those “Most Valuable Contributors” who have worked very hard to provide guidance, plug-ins and support via various online forums.  MVC support has been crucial in helping many of our new customers and beta customers understand and learn all of the new features and functionality in Lightroom.
