LiveCycle SharePoint Connector option convert to pdf is not available on .xml or .aspx pages

Users keep facing the issue that the LiveCycle SharePoint connector options are not available on certain type of files like xml and aspx.

Solution:

To enable convert to pdf option for xml, aspx or any other type of documents (which are supported by LiveCycle PDF Generator component), you can follow the below steps:-

1.) Before Installing the LiveCycle connector for SharePoint Web Part on the SharePoint server 2010:

You can edit the file <Web_Part_Extracted_DIR>\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\LiveCycle\Elements.xml and add the section <CustomAction … /> as shown below from this file itself by updating the RegistrationId attribute to the desired extension on which you want to enable the convert to pdf option and then install the connector.

<CustomAction
Id=”LiveCycle.GeneratePDFFromTxt”
GroupId=”719888FB-6308-45bb-8B64-24F147C6B899″
RegistrationType=”FileType”
RegistrationId=”txt
Location=”EditControlBlock”
Sequence=”109″
ImageUrl=”/_layouts/images/LiveCycle/createPdf.png”
Title=”$Resources:AdobeLiveCycleConnectorCore, generatePdf_action;”>
<UrlAction Url=”javascript:window.location=’{SiteUrl}/_layouts/LiveCycle/GeneratePDF.aspx?ItemId={ItemId}&ListId={ListId}&PageUrl=’+window.location”/>
</CustomAction>

2.) After Installing the LiveCycle connector for SharePoint Web Part on the SharePoint server 2010:

Follow the steps as given in point number (1.) above and then restart the IIS server. This is easy to do if this is a standalone installation of SharePoint 2010. In case this is a FARM installation, you’ll have to restart all the IIS servers in the FARM.

OR

To avoid restarting the IIS server(s). You need to uninstall the web part, update the Elements.xml file in the extracted directory (as shown in step 1 above) and then install the web part again. This way the changes will also propagate to all the others servers in the farm.
