Adobe Youth Voices, the Black Eyed Peas & Photoshop

Giving young people opportunities to advance their artistic and academic development is a mission very near and dear to the Photoshop team. Our friends over at the Adobe Foundation and Adobe Youth Voices announced today that they are partnering with the Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation to open the fourth Peapod Adobe Youth Voices music and multimedia academy for underprivileged youth in New York City.

What does that mean for Photoshop Fans?

Adobe and the Photoshop team hope to lay the groundwork for future Photoshop Fans by encouraging self-expression, creativity, community involvement and digital literacy among youth who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
Young digital artists are able to attend the academies where they can access professional-grade multimedia creations software and an innovative curriculum provided by Adobe Youth Voices. The Peapod Foundation also donated high-tech music studio tools and a premium recording facility.

What kind of youth Photoshop art comes out of the academies?

The students of the Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academy in Redwood City, CA created the images below for album and DVD covers using Photoshop.

The term “Raconteur” was significant to the students who created this work – so much so that they placed the definition on the front cover. A raconteur is a person who excels at relating interesting stories. The Photoshop team loved this idea because one of the main uses of Photoshop is to illustrate stories, ideas and perspectives in a meaningful, artistic way.

What is the new academy like?

The brand new New York Peapod Adobe Youth Voices academy will be located at 21 Howard Street. We will be working in conjunction with the Urban Arts Partnership. The academy’s programs and services will be offered to youth ages 13-19 beginning this July. We expect 150 youth to participate this year  within all our academies including Oakland, Los Angeles and Redwood City, California as well as our newest academy in New York.

As a Photoshop Fan, what can I do to help youth artists with the AYV Program?

The Photoshop Fans have already raised $4,700 for young artists.  Join other fans to raise more or help spread the word. The Adobe Youth Voices media gallery is home to a large variety of youth media on about every topic you can imagine. Download inspirational documentaries, music videos and public service announcements that represent the opinion of young people from around the world. See great work and share it with others!
